The Minnesota Swarm held four first round draft picks and picked the usual suspects; Logan Schuss, Cam Flint and Jason Noble. But their fourth pick might end up the steal of the draft in Scott Jones.Jones is 24 years old and played NCAA lacrosse with UMBC along with the Burnaby Lakers of the Western Lacrosse Association. During the 2013 season Jones rose up the draft boards to become a first rounder.
“It’s hard to put into words how I feel right now,” Jones told us. “I am very excited to join a young team that has tons of upside.”
At 6’5 and 210lbs Jones will bring a physical aspect to the offensive side of the ball. He is a righty shooter and that part of the Minnesota roster needed an upgrade, something that he can provide. “I bring first of all a team first mentality,” Jones said. “I will do anything to make the guys around me better. Also my size and vision of the floor is a strength.”
In his third WLA season in 2013 Jones averaged nearly three points a game as he exploded onto the scene. The Swarm overall got ranked with an A draft grade by In Lacrosse We Trust, and a lot of that had to do with the quantity of picks. However, to be able to get Jones where they did may end up the steal of the draft.
“I have heard a lot of good things about the organization. I had the chance to sit down and talk with John Arlotta and he represent the Swarm very well as a top class guy” says Jones.
“The feeling is hard to explain,” Jones said of getting drafted. “A lot of emotions today that’s for sure. Nice to watch the draft at school with a bunch of my best friends.”
