The National Lacrosse League’s (NLL) Minnesota Swarm today announced that the team has re-signed defenseman Greg Downing to a one-year contract.
Downing, 29, appeared in all 18 games with the Swarm in 2014, and ranked second on the team with 28 forced turnovers. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound lefty defenseman also notched eight points(3g, 5a) and collected 69 loose balls in his third full season with the Swarm, sixth in the NLL. Downing has totaled 51 points (10g, 41a) and 446 loose balls in 87 career games with Minnesota and Boston. Despite missing half of the 2012 season due to a knee injury, Downing has yet to miss a game the past two seasons, and has been a regular fixture on Minnesotaâs defensive unit.
âGreg is one of the most consistent performers on our roster,â Swarm Owner and Governor John Arlotta said. âWhile he may not always get the recognition that he deserves, Gregâs skills on the defensive side and his presence in the locker room are very valuable to our team. Heâs well respected amongst his teammates and his work ethic sets a great example for our younger players.”
The deal is currently pending league approval.
