Ten NLL Players to Watch in Week Five

It goes without saying that one of the players to watch weekly is rookie sensation Mark Matthews of the Edmonton Rush.  So here are 10 others to watch for this week.

  1. Luke Wiles: Only 3 goals and 6 assists in 4 games? WOW… With John Tavares out of the lineup this week with a calf injury the Bandits will be looking to Wiles  to be one of the main goal scorers.
  1. Mark Steenhuis: Only 3 goals & 4 assists in four games.  This is another Bandit that needs to step up this weekend, and like Wiles, with Tavares injured now is the time.
  1. Colorado Mammoth:  The goaltending will be watched.  Early in the week the Mammoth released Chris Levis and signed Dan Lewis, making Matt Roik the #1 goalie for now.  Winless at home the Mammoth are  averaging 13 goals a game while allowing 16
  1. Calgary Roughnecks.  After scoring 35 goals in two games last weekend, the question here is,  Are the Roughnecks back to being the dominator in the west?  They face the Rush on the road, so this will be a big test for their defense to see how they maintain Mark Matthews & Curtis Knight
  1. Andrew Suitor.  After missing the first two games from a suspension, Suits registered 2G/1A last week.  Look for Suitor as well as Shayne Jackson and Kiel Matisz to give the Mammoth goaltender(s) the woolies
  1. Rochester Knighthawks.  Defending champs are 0-3.  This week the Stealth come to town for a rematch of opening night which saw the Stealth defeat Rochester.  Hawks will try to get into the win column this week at home, as they go on the road for back to back next week @ Philadelphia & @ Buffalo
  1. Cliff Smith.  After starting the season with 7G/8A in the first two games,(2-0) Smith has registered only 2G/5A in the last three games (1-2). Can Smith get back on track and help the Stealth keep the hawks winless in 2013?
  1. Billings, Doyle, Sanderson, etc.. can the high powered offense of the Rock continue there torrid pace and get a tighter grip on the east as they travel to Buffalo
  1. Edmonton Rush.  Two loses by a total of three goals.  So far in this young 2013 season the Rush have shown they can not be taken lightly.  Can this young team cool off a hot Calgary team and make themselves a contender in the west.
  1. Anthony Cosmo.  After a rough start that saw Cosmo pulled in the first two games, he has put together 2 solid 60 minute performances. Can he make it three in a row?  Without captain John Tavares this week, Anthony Cosmo will need to come up big and keep his cool against the high powered Rock offense
