Last night in the WLA the Langley Thunder and Coquitlam Adanacs kicked off their Playoff series. This series is a rematch of last year’s WLA final. Langley won the final last year and will look to defend their title starting with a series victory over the Adanacs.
The Thunder would take control of this game early as they dominated the Adanacs as the Thunder scored six consecutive goals. The Thunder found themselves up 6-0 before Coquitlam finally woke up as Daryl Veltman scored to make it 6-1. Langley would build on their lead as Athan Iannucci scored his second goal to make it 7-1 Thunder. Coquitlam would end the period with a goal as Matthew Dinsdale score to make the score 7-2 at the end of the first period.
After the first period it looked like Langley would walk all over Coquitlam but in the second period the Adanacs turned the tables on the Thunder. In the second period Coquitlam scored six goals consecutive goals sparked by Jeff Sproules shorthanded goal. The Adanacs found themselves in control as they now led 9-7. The Adanacs shut the Thunder out in the second period and took a 8-7 lead into the third.
After the first two periods this game looked like a heavyweight fight as Langley tried for the early knockout after scoring seven goals in the first but Coquitlam counter punched with six goals of their own in the second period. In the third period Langley would tie the game on a goal by Athan Iannucci four minutes into the third period to make the score 8-8. Dane Dobbie would then score the go ahead goal against his former team with eight minutes left in the game to make the score 9-8. With just two minutes left in the game Scott Johnston would score to seal the 10-8 victory for the Thunder.
This game went back and forth all night with both teams having offensive explosions but in the end Langley dug deep and emerged the victors. If game one was any indication this could be a long series as Coquitlam will not go down without a fight.
