Depth Chart Examination: Toronto Rock

It has been rumored that the new NLL CBA might cut rosters from 23 to 20 for 2014. This means 27 current players will be without jobs, along with some drafted players who would have otherwise made it. How does this affect team depth charts?Drafted players are not signed yet, so this just assumes that all of them sign for the sake of this story. The depth charts we use are the ones from SwarmItUp.com since the NLL doesn’t release any official depth charts. We will look team by team of how it affects them.

The Toronto Rock have not made many changes from last season and still look to be a contender in the NLL.  This article will look at their potential depth chart for the season.

1st line

There are no surprises on the Rock’s top line as Billings and Doyle will once again be expected to lead the offense. Both players had phenomenal summer seasons with their respective teams and will look to carry over their momentum. On defense Chapman and Merrill will be the first line of defense when this team needs to shutdown the opposition

Left Forward: Colin Doyle   Right Forward: Garrett Billings

Left Defense: Sandy Chapman Right Defense: Patrick Merrill

2nd line

Sanderson and Beirnes will lead the second line this season. Sanderson put up an impressive 62 points laast season while Beirnes put up 54. Beirnes will be looked upon to step up his game this season and he should be up to the task.

Left Forward: Josh Sanderson Right Forward: Kasey Beirnes

Left Defense: Cam Woods Right Defense: Stephen Hoar.

3rd line

Left Forward: Stephen Leblanc Right Forward: Scott Evans

Left Defense: Chris White Right Defense: Mike Hobbins

4th line

Left Forward: Roger Vyse Right Forward: Kyle Belton

Left Defense: Bill Greer Right Defense: Ron Marshall

Forwards: Robe Hellyer

Defense: Jesse Gamble, Damon Edwards, and Scott Johnson

Rookies will have their work cut out for them to make the team as the Rock have depth at every position so an any rookie will need to prove themselves in training camp and give it their all to make the team.

Goaltending

Rose once again will be Toronto’s number one goaltender and should be up to the task. Rose was stellar in the WLA this and will hope to carry over his momentum to the NLL this year.

Nick Rose

Zach Boychuk

Overall the Rock should be a contender once again if they play u to their full potential. The Rock need to focus on playing tighter defence and try to get improve their transition game. Overall though 2014 should be a good year for the Rock.
