The Whitby Warriors inch closer to their second Minto Cup in three years as they sit atop of the round robin standings with a 2-0 record.
The Warriors have out scored their opponents (New Westminster and Okotok) 29-9 in two games at Queens Park Arena. Heading the charge for Whitby is Cornell Big Red’s Dan Litner who has found the back of the cage 10 times while adding two assists for a tournament leading 12 points.
The Warriors will close out round robin action against the British Colombia champion Coquitlam Adanacs tonight (8/19). A Whitby win would solidify the number one seed and a bye to the Minto Cup final.
The host New Westminster Salmonbellies take on the winless Okotok Raiders in hopes to punch their ticket to the semi- finals if they defeat the Raiders. Leading the way for the host club is 2013 BC Jr.A leading goal scorer Eli McLaughlin, posting six points (3G,3A) in two Minto Cup contests. The Surrey,BC native was acquired in a block buster trade from the Delta Islanders in July. Alongside McLaughlin is BC Jr.A scoring champion Cody Nass who has registered four assists in the Bellies first two Minto contests.
