Week 3 CUFLA Top 5 Power Rankings: McGill Still Number 1

1.McGill (7-0) Last Week: 1
The McGill Redmen continued their Eastern Division dominance last week as they crushed the Concordia Stingers 23-1 Tuesday night to remain undefeated in Canadian University Lacrosse Association. Junior attackman Leland de Langley led the offensive charge with four goals and six assists for 10 points. Freshman atttackman Spencer Bromley filled the cage five times while adding two assists in his breakout performance. Freshman netminder William Waesche started between the pipes for McGill to pick up his first CUFLA win. The Greenwich, CT goaltender did not give up a goal in 40 minutes of play. Fellow rookie netminder Gordon Hart played the second half and only allowed one goal. The Redmen traveled to Troy,NY to take on the NCAA Division III Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a exhibition scrimmage, suffering their first loss of the season in an 11-6 defeat. The Redmen will travel to Ottawa Saturday afternoon to take on Carleton before hosting the Golden Gaels of Queen’s Sunday evening.
2. Brock (5-1) Last Week: 3

The Brock Badgers extended their winning streak to three as they took down the Laurier Golden Hawks and division rivals Western Mustangs. The Badgers opened their weekend off with a 13-8 Friday win under the lights in Waterloo against Laurier. Freshmen attackman Brandon Slade continued his solid rookie campaign as he compiled a seven point night while senior attackman Kyle Davis added a natural hat-trick while adding an assist. Rookie Ryan Jones made 10 saves en route to collecting the second win of his young CUFLA career. The Badgers bounced back the next day as they knocked off divisional rival Western Mustangs by the score of 8-5. Leading the way for the Badgers was fifth year senior Ian Duffy as he made an outstanding 18 saves, including three highlight reel stops in the third quarter. The Ajax,ON native’s sensational play earned him Brock Badgers Athlete of the Week honors. The Badgers offensive attack was ushered by Mississauga,ON midfielder Travis Arch who registered four points (2G,2A). Brampton Jr.A product Gage Board was close behind with three points, including the insurance marker and two helpers. Senior face-off specialist Jake Lambert was dominant from the X, winning two thirds of the draws on the day. The Badgers have a busy upcoming week as they have a pair of games against McMaster and one with Toronto.
3.Guelph (6-1) Last Week:4
Since falling 14-6 to the Brock Badgers, the Guelph Gryphons are undefeated in three games, including wins against McMaster, Toronto and Laurentian. Last Wednesday night the Gryphons hosted the Marauders and picked up a14-9 victory. Of the 14 goals, 5 of them came from senior Midfielder Connor Deuchars, bringing his CUFLA regular season career total to 48. Buffalo Bandits product Jordan Critch picked up an impressive six assists while finding the back of the net once. Junior netminder Jeremy Snider made 13 saves en route to picking up the victory. Guelph headed to Toronto to take on U of T Saturday night as the Gryphons knocked off the Varsity Blues 14-11. Leading the way for the Gryphons was Ryan Serville and Critch. The big attackman from Pickering,ON netted a hat-trick while adding two assists, while Orangeville,ON’s Critch had a pair of goals and three helpers. In the third and final contest of the week, the Gryphons knocked off Laurentian 14-6. The Edmonton Rush’s Curtis Knight posted four goals and an assist for a team high five points. Trailing shortly behind was Serville, Critch and sophomore midfielder Brendan Vogan who each added four points. Sophomore netminder Michael Lalani was rewarded the victory between the pipes. The Gryphons will host the Golden Hawks of Laurier this Wednesday night but will see no action this weekend.
4. Western (4-2) Last Week: 2

The Western Mustangs found themselves on the losing end of their lone game this past weekend as they fell to divisional rivals Brock University. The Mustangs offense was held to only five goals as Brock’s netminder Ian Duffy had Western’s number all day. Finding the back of the cage for the Mustangs was Chestnut Hill grad Shane Morlock, fifth year senior attackmen Shayne Snider, fifth year senior midfielder Taylor Rivers, junior defender Matt Spanger and sophomore midfielder Sam Neeb. On the other side of the ball, four time All-Canadian Defender Eric Pitre and fellow Toronto Beaches product Spanger were solid on defense. Leading scorer Ryan McCrory was held off the game sheet in the Western loss. The Mustangs hope to get back on track during a busy weekend as they host Laurentian on Friday and Saturday and head to Varsity Stadium to take on Toronto.
5.Bishop’s (4-2) Last Week: Unranked
After two home victories, Bishop’s found their way back onto the ILWT Top 5 Power Rankings. The Gaiters avenged their early season loss to Queen’s, picking up a 12-9 victory over the Golden Gaels. Leading the offensive charge was junior attackman Alex Henderson who buried a hat-trick and added a helper. Henderson now sits in first in points among all CUFLA runners with 32. Also netting a hat-trick was Ironhead Jr.B product James Malloy. The Uxbridge,ON attackman sits second in Bishop’s scoring with 16. In the 22-7 victory over Carleton, once again Henderson lead the way, this time with eight points. Brewster Acadamy product Brett Conway chipped in with three goals and a pair of assists. The Gaiters will have this weekend off from action.
