Rumors are going around that Maryland may end up in the Big Ten. If this is the case, this not only affects the landscapes of the ACC, but of the entire NCAA/
Maryland is a lacrosse power house, always in the race. They’ve been to the final four the past two years , losing to Virginia in 2010 and Loyola in 2011.
The ACC is known to be a power conference, with Maryland, Virginia, Duke and North Carolina, and will soon be joined by Syracuse and Notre Dame. But that dominant power conference that we were all looking forward to might not happen.
According to a report from ESPN, Maryland (along with Rutgers who is also a D1 team) has been in talks to join the Big Ten conference.
The announcement of this move could come as soon as Monday, so we are wondering, what does this mean for Maryland lacrosse?
There are currently three Big Ten teams in Division One lacrosse; Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State. If Maryland were to move, that would make it a four team conference (five with Rutgers) and enough to have a Big Ten conference in NCAA lacrosse.
Stay tuned for more updates as we will look at how this affects the Big East in the coming week, along with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
