What We Learned: Colorado Mammoth Camp

NLL training camps have opened, and that means we are finally starting to learn how team rosters will take shape. The Colorado Mammoth were the second team to open camp. Here is what we learned.

  • Rookies Better than Expected: Steve Govett said it, and so did a lot of other players after camp ended. Robert Hope and Eli McLaughlin are looking like studs early. It sounds like McLaughlin looks even better than anticipated and is going to be a major contributor to the offense.
  • Alexis Buque Looks Great, and that Means Belanger Could be Done: Another rookie who received a stellar report is goaltender Alexis Buque. In fact, he looks so good that Mammoth sources have been telling me it could spell the end of Tye Belanger in Colorado. A far cry from when he had the opportunity to start last season.
  • Zach Rogers Cut: It sounds like the Mammoth cut American defenseman Zach Rogers, who was an interesting draft pick to begin with being the only player to be drafted out of Southern California.
  • Colorado Has a Stunning Offense: Sean Pollock and Athan Iannucci are back, and Adam Jones has become one of the better scorers in the league. And they have John Grant Jr. That’s one of the most solid offenses in the league and it sounds like this unit looked stellar once again.
  • Jeremy Noble?: The rumor mill says that the Rochester Knighthawks haven’t signed the rookie Jeremy Noble, and the Mammoth made a huge push to trade for the second overall pick to draft him. The Mammoth would love to trade for Noble; the only question is what will it take? It would make sense to replace Eric Law, missing the early part of the season.
