Last season it came down to Paul Rabil and Ned Crotty, with Rabil getting the award. This season, is it hard to deny Paul Rabil as the MVP again, after breaking the all time single season scoring record?
Most of us here at In Lacrosse We Trust agreed Rabil should be MVP, but a few of us mentioned Brendan Mundorf of the Denver Outlaws. So let’s compare their numbers and decide who the league MVP should really be.
Paul Rabil has 72  points. No one has ever reached 72 points before Paul Rabil. Ever. Does that give him the automatic MVP?
He scored twenty seven goals and thirty eight assists. Seven of his goals were two point shots, and he led a Cannons offense that has plenty of scorers. Rabil is not the only Cannons who can put the ball in the net. Matt Poskay, Ryan Boyle and many more can also score.
So he scored that many points with a large cast around him. It’s not like he was the guy on a team that only gave him the ball. That makes this accomplishment all the more impressive.
Now for Mundorf, who led the Denver Outlaws to the top seed in the league. He scored fifty nine points, with thirty two of them goals. That is five more goals than Rabil has. He picked up twenty seven assists, which is ten less than Rabil.
Mundorf had no two point goals. He has one point more than Boyle who is a part of the Cannons offense.
But now we need to decide who is the most valuable. Not most impressive, but valuable. Yes, Rabil dominated. Are the Cannons still a great offense without him? … Maybe. That’s hard to determine. Or is it Rabil that makes the Cannons offense shine?
As it is, they barely got into the playoffs while Denver cruised all year. The next leading Denver scorer is Jeremy Sieverts, who is ninth in the league. Could the Outlaws be in a worse position without Mundorf?
Most of us think Rabil is the MVP, but Mundorf has a case to be made. What do you think? Who is the MLL MVP?
