WLA Final Game 6 Preview

On Wednesday night game 6 of the WLA final will take place. Coquitlam were able to stay alive in game five by defeating Langley 7-6. Coquitlam will once again try to survive and force a game 7 in this series. While Langley will try to end the series and win their second straight WLA Championship.

In game 6 of this series Coquitlam showed their offensive talent as they created an early lead and were able to shut down Langley’s offense for most of the game.  Coquitlam had a bad break in game 5 as they lost Nick Rose for the game due to illegal equipment luckily Coquitlam were able to hold the fort. Langley showed in game 5 that no lead is safe as their offense almost completed a third period comeback but came up just short. Langley will need to capitalize on their chances in game 6 as Nick Rose will not give them many opportunities. With how close this series has been the goalies will be the key for both teams. With how evenly matched these two teams are expect to see a game 6 to come down to the wire.

Expect Coquitlam to come out fired up as they have home rink advantage as well as momentum after staying alive in game 5. Coquitlam will once again need to play shut down defence like they did on Tuesday as they were able to limit Langley’s shots on net while being able to take advantage of the transition game and build a lead. Coquitlam will need to be careful though not start playing sloppy on defense as their sloppy play in the third period of game 5 almost cost them the game. Coquitlam will need Nick Rose to continue his strong play in order to hold Langley off. If Coquitlam can once again get an early lead and force Langley into a defensive battle they will be able to win this game. Coquitlam’s best chance to win is to force Langley to make errors on offense and then to counter attack which will allow them to take advantage of the transition game. On offense Dane Dobbie and Kevin Olson will need to find a way to open up space on the court as Langley’s defense will be focused on them as they have powered Coquitlam’s offense this series.

For Langley they need to get off to a quicker start in game 6 then they did in game 5. If Langley would have been able to generate more shots early they would have won the game as Coquitlam’s defense weakened down the stretch. Langley will want to control ball possession as well as spread the ball around to force Rose to make saves from different angles. If Langley can keep constant pressure on Coquitlam and wear out Coquitlam’s defense then Langley will win the game. Langley will need to find a way to stop Dane Dobbie on defense because if they can slow him then they will hamper Coquitlam’s offense. Langley will need to come out hungry in this game as Coquitlam will be reckless and desperate to win and if Langley is overconfident they will lose once again.

This game will be decided by which team is able to solve the others defense first.  So expect both offenses to come out firing early as the first goal in this game will be very important. Game 6 kicks off at 7:45pst on Wednesday night.
