Here are this week’s WLA power rankings:
7. Nanaimo Timbermen (1-5-1) The Timbermen have lost their last three games along with allowing the most goals in the WLA with 77. The Timbermen have struggled this year and look destined to once again finish at the bottom of the standings.
6. Coquitlam Adanacs (2-4) The Adanacs are suffering from a power outage as they have only scored 45 goals this season the fewest of any team in the WLA. The Adanacs defense has been solid llowing the fewest goals against in the league but due to their offenses inability to score they have been unable to produce wins and look like they will be stuck near the bottom of the standings unless their offense can finally wake up.
5. New Westminster Salmonbellies (2-4) The Salmonbellies have lost their last three games and are tied with Coquitlam for second last in the WLA. The Salmonbellies are another team that has struggled to score goals as they have almost allowed the same amount of goals against as goals they scored. The Salmonbellies have allowed 51 goals against and have scored 50 goals. If the Salmonbellies can find their offensive moo they could easily move up in the standings as their defense has been solid.
4. Burnaby Lakers (3-3) The Lakers are currently on a two game losing streak thanks to losses to Victoria and Maple Ridge. The Lakers have dominated all the teams that sit below them in the standings but all three of their losses have come from the teams currently sitting ahead of them in the standings. The Lakers need to be able to beat the top teams if they want to be seen as a legit contender in this league. The Lakers have the tools needed to contend for first in the WLA but they need to figure out a way to use these tools to their full potential.
3. Langley Thunder (4-4) The Thunder currently are 4-1 in their last five games and seemed to have fixed their early season struggles. The Thunder if they can keep up their current play will be in the running to finish first in the WLA. Alex Turner and Athan Iannucci have provided the Thunder with a 1-2 punch that few teams can handle.
2. Maple Ridge Burrards (5-3) The Burrards are currently riding a three game win streak. The Burrards have one of the top offenses in the WLA and they received a boost this weekend with Curtis Dickson back in the lineup. Dickson has already proved his worth as he has eight points in just two games and will be able to give the Burrards offense the push it needs to become the best in the WLA. The Burrards are currently the closest team to challenging the Shamrocks for first in the WLA.
1. Victoria Shamrocks (6-0-1) The Shamrocks after seven games remain undefeated and hold wins over every team in the WLA. The Shamrocks have looked unstoppable this season much in part to the phenomenal play of Corey Small who has showed his ability to score to make plays as he had 14 points in just two games this week. The Shamrocks are in league of their own and their seems to be no team in the WLA that can challenge them.
