Cannons Need a Win As They Take on Chesapeake

The Boston Cannons desperately need a win this afternoon as they take on the first place Chesapeake Bayhawks at home. The Cannons are in a tie for the last playoff spot with the Rochester Rattlers, and only one of them can make it. Meanwhile, the Bayhawks have a spot locked up.

The Cannons and Bayhawks have met once this season, with the Bayhawks winning at home. Last season the two clubs faced off twice, sweeping the Hawks in the regular season series and defeating them in the MLL playoffs as well.

In some bad news for the Cannons, they will lose Jon Hayes for the season after he broke his foot. He took a shot off the foot last week against the Denver Outlaws. However, the Cannons have gotten Matt Smalley back from the PUP list last week. Patrick Gaffney was claimed from the practice squad, and they also brought back Jake Beebe from the practice roster.

The Bayhawks made their own moves yesterday, sending goalie Mike Gabel to the practice roster and calling up Tim Kaiser. Last week Matt Poskay scored his 200th MLL career goal, becoming just the eighth player in MLL history to accomplish this.

The Bayhawks lead the league in two point goals with twenty two. Meanwhile, two of the scorers in the league come from the Cannons, Paul Rabil and Ryan Boyle. With 56 points and just three games left, there is a chance Rabil can break the all time record of 71 which is held by John Grant Jr.

Game time today is at 2pm eastern, and it is the biggest game of the season for Boston while Chesapeake can move up in their playoff positioning.
