USA Rebounds From Loss, Defeats England

The U.S. under-19 men’s national team cruised over England, 20-1, on Sunday in its third pool play game at the Federation of International Lacrosse U19 World Championships, rebounding from an 11-9 overtime loss to Canada 24 hours earlier.

Attackman Kyle Keenan scored a team-high four goals and Matt Kavanagh had two goals and two assists as 12 different players found the back of the net at least once. The U.S. scored the game’s first 11 goals.

Kyle Turri played all 80 minutes in net, making six saves, while Zach Oliveri had a day off. The pair has typically split halves in tournament and exhibition play.

The U.S. (2-1) has its first off day on Monday since it began tournament play on Friday. It faces the Iroquois (1-1) at 1 p.m. local time (6 a.m. EST) in Turku on Tuesday in its final pool play game of the competition. In other “Blue Division” play on Sunday, the Iroquois fell to undefeated Canada, 11-9. Canada (3-0) plays England (1-2) and the Iroquois play Australia (0-2) on Monday.

The top two finishers in the division receive byes to the semifinals on Thursday, while third and fourth place will each play a quarterfinal game on Wednesday.
