The 2014 Creator’s Cup Champion Niagara Lock Monsters are pleased to announce that Matt Attwood will be taking over as Head Coach for the 2015 season. Also returning this year will be Clancy Almas as Assistant Coach/Defense, and Garrett Ball as Assistant Coach/Offence.
Matt Attwood steps into the Head Coaching role as he enters his third season with the Lock Monsters. The Brock lacrosse alumnus is a native of St. Catharines, and is the Head Coach of the Spartans Jr. B squad. Attwood also ran the offence with the St. Catharines Saints in the Ontario Sr. B league. Under Attwood’s tutelage, the Lock Monsters have been one of the top offensive teams in CLax in both of its seasons.
Clancy Almas returns to guide a stifling defence that helped to lead the Lock Monsters to their first Creator’s Cup win last year, and boasts two CLax Goalies of the Year in Dave DiRuscio and Connor Danko. Almas is a Hamilton native that has served as Head Coach of the HamiltonBengals Jr. C team the last four years guiding them to the Ontario Final Four twice. Almas has professional experience, as he previously coached with the Hamilton Nationals Pro Field team and has also coached Team Ontario numerous times.
Garrett Ball will transition into an Assistant Coach role this season, focusing his attention the Lock Monsters’ offence. Ball spent last year as Assistant GM, working closely with Jeff Dowling. Ball is also a Lock Monster alumni playing 11 games and putting up 23 points in the teams inaugural season. The native of Brantford was a standout player at Brock University where he teamed up with Attwood to win 5 CUFLA Championships. Ball has also played with the St. Catharines Spartan and Saints programs.
