Atlanta Close to Gaining MLL Team?

The rumors of a Major League Lacrosse franchise in Atlanta have swirled for a long time, but the reality of the situation seems to becoming true.According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, former pro lacrosse player Liam Banks is making a push to bring a pro team to Atlanta as early as next season.

The report indicates an expansion franchise would be in Atlanta, but any informed lacrosse fan knows about the unstable situation of the Rochester Rattlers, and they played a test game in Atlanta in 2013.

The report also says the deal could be reached in late August, maybe even before championship weekend on August 24th and 25th. The Rattlers played the Boston Cannons in Atlanta this June in front of over 5,000 fans.

The most recent expansion franchises have been Charlotte and Ohio, who have been rather successful attendance wise and on the field Charlotte has made the playoffs for 2013. This Atlanta franchise could potentially be ready to play by the 2014 season. If it is expansion, it is easy to expect they would be joined by another expansion team in the league.
