Junior C Lakers Advance to Round Two

After an 8-2 win at home on Wednesday evening, the Peterborough Lakers could end the Junior season for the Mimico Mountaineers. With their Junior B club already sent packing, the Junior C squad was looking to ward off elimination at home. Given the Mountaineers were 2-13-1 on the season, and facing a Lakers team with a 9-6 record, the best-of-three series was not expected to be much of a matchup….

2013 NLL Draft Prospects: Dhane Smith

When cuts were made for team Canada’s U19 squad heading to Turku, Finland, no doubt Dhane Smith was disappointed he didn’t make the cut. However, it may have been a blessing in disguise as the Kitchener/Waterloo star has been able to play with the big boys and show he’s ready to take the next step. Smith finished his fourth season with the Kitchener/Waterloo Braves of the OLA’s Junior A circuit…

MSL Weekend Update: Redmen Down Chiefs, Kitchener Embarrasses Brampton Again

As was expected from the MSL season, the top four teams in the standings (alphabetically: Brampton Excelsiors, Brooklin Redmen, Peterborough Lakers, Six Nations Chiefs) are closer than they’ve been in recent memory, while distancing themselves from the other two teams (Ajax Rock, Kitchener/Waterloo Kodiaks). Four teams were in action on Sunday in games that would have massive impacts on the season standings. First, at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Six…

MSL Update: Six Nations Chiefs Double Up Brooklin Redmen

Although Wednesday night’s MSL matchup between the Six Nations Chiefs and the Brooklin Redmen had no bearing on their respective division standings, a win by the home side would vault Brooklin into sole possession of top spot overall. Both teams came into the game leading their division, although one point separated them (along with Brampton and Peterborough) in the overall standings. Both teams were coming off overtime performances against “lesser”…

Jr B Playoff Report: Halton Hills Going Home, But Not Quietly

To say the Clarington Green Gaels have had an easy time of their Junior B playoff run so far, would be an understatement. They eliminated the Mimico Mountaineers in three straight games outscoring the boys in blue 49-19. Arenas with plenty of tradition are great to be in to watch any sport, let alone lacrosse. But it usually means they fall short of the amenities modern multifunctional facilities take for granted; amenities such as internet, accessible seating, media galleries and air conditioning. On Wednesday night the Peterborough Lakers, who play in their own historic building, travelled to the Iroquois Sports Park in Whitby to take on the Brooklin…

Junior A Lacrosse Playoffs Begin

On night one of the OLA Junior A playoffs, there were no surprises. With a win on the final night of the season, the Six Nations Arrows grabbed top spot away from the Whitby Warriors. Everyone else remained where there were from our *Junior A playoff preview*# earlier this weekend. The win wasn’t surprising as it came against St Catharines, but the fact they were able to leapfrog Whitby is….

Major Series Lacrosse at the Half Way Point

The OLA Senior A ranks, more commonly known as Major Series Lacrosse (MSL), has reached the halfway point of their season. Traditionally the league has been two teams – Brampton and Peterborough.
