On Friday the Barrie Blizzard acquired Wes McDonald, Scott Gamble, and Geoff Griffiths from the Durham Turfdogs in exchange for Jason Mainer and Cal Kitson.
With these three acquisitions, Barrie significantly toughens up on defense. 6’3”, 215 lbs Wes McDonald is a Toronto Beaches Jr. A product and graduate of the Hobart College lacrosseprogram. Scott Gamble is a fellow Beaches player and brings a wealth of CLax experience to the Blizzard. Gamble is now in his third CLax season spending a year with the Oshawa Machine, Toronto Shooting Stars and most recently the Durham Turfdogs. Finally, Geoff Griffiths is entering his second CLax season having also spent last year with the Toronto Shooting Stars. The strong two-way player brings significant experience to the team.
Barrie General Manager Rob Blasdell said, “We are thrilled with these three additions to our roster, and feel they will help us significantly in shutting down our opposition and transitioning down the floor.”
Going to the Turfdogs is offensive threat Jason Mainer who was third in points last season with the Blizzard with 14 goals and 27 assists. The Orillia native adds some additional scoring punch to an already dangerous Turfdogs line up. Joining Mainer is Brampton native Cal Kitson. Kitson was in his second CLax season with the Blizzard and brings a solid defensive mindset to Durham.
Durham General Manager Dave Colbourne said, “I’m looking forward to having Mainer and Kitson in the lineup for the Turfdogs. They both bring some significant skill that will fit nicely into our team.”
