With their win over the Rochester Rattlers last week, the Denver Outlaws clinched a spot in MLL Championship Weekend.
Meanwhile, the Chesapeake Bayhawks had already clinched a couple of weeks before. With those slots locked up, only two more teams can make the playoffs, and three have a chance, next week.
All three of those teams are facing teams who are out of the hunt. The Boston Cannons need just a win to clinch, or a loss from Rochester or Long Island. They are playing the last place Ohio Machine for the second week in a row.
The Rochester Rattlers, however, need to defeat the Charlotte Hounds on the road and also for the Cannons to lose to Ohio. That would give them a playoff spot.
The Rattlers have the tiebreaker over the Lizards, thanks to a series win against them this season. So to get the fourth slot of the playoffs, the Lizards need the Rattlers to lose.
As of now, the Cannons are in third and Long Island is in fourth, despite the tie in records. If everything stays the same, those teams get in with Rochester one game back.
Rochester can only get in if they win, and one of Long Island or Boston loses. If the Rattlers defeat Charlotte, and either the Cannons lose to Ohio or the Lizards lose to Hamilton, they can get in at the fourth or fifth slot.
Boston Wins- Cannons get in
Boston Wins and Long Island Wins- Cannons and Lizards get in
Boston wins and Long Island loses and Rochester wins- Cannons and Rattlers get in.
Boston loses and Long Island loses and Rochester wins- Cannons and Rattlers get in.
Basically, if Boston and Long Island win, they get in. That’s all they need. Both of them can get in with losses only if Rochester loses. Rochester can only get in if they win and one of those teams loses. If both those teams lose and Rochester wins, it will be Boston on the outside looking in.
Stay tuned for more updates on playoff scenarios.
