Bayhawks Veteran Squad Gets Better

Casey Powell will be in the lineup for the Chesapeake Bayhawks this week, but he’s not the only all star veteran coming out of retirement for the defending champions.

Tim Goettelmann, known as the “monster”, was signed by the Bayhawks this week and will be active tomorrow against the New York Lizards, the team he played with for 11 years.

With the Lizards, Goettelmann scored 238 goals, the most all time in Major League Lacrosse history. He was one of the original players in the league and has the second most games all time at 132.

Goettelmann played for Bayhawks head coach Dave Cottle with Loyola and was roomates with Grant during the first MLL tour and that played into his decision according to reports.

With Grant, Powell and now Goettelmann on the Bayhawks roster they have one of the best veteran laden rosters in the league. They could use help soon, however, as Hamilton’s lineup of young players stopped them in overtime to move the Hawks to a 4-2 record.

The Bayhawks also get veteran midfielder Josh Sims back this week. To make room on the roster, Jay Card and Chris Hunt have been waived.
