The Chesapeake Bayhawks defeated the Denver Outlaws on Sunday to win the Major League Lacrosse Championship. It is the Bayhawks record fourth championship, and their second in the past three seasons.
The Outlaws got off to the early start, with two straight goals from Casey Cittadino and Mark Matthews. But the next five goals of the first quarter would come from the Bayhawks, coming from John Grant Jr, and two a piece from Steven Brooks and Danny Glading.
A two point goal from Ben Hunt led off the second quarter, but Denver fired back with two goals to make the score 7-4 Chesapeake midway through the second.
Brendan Mundorf led the game soon after, looking like his ankle injury was bothering him. After that John Grant and Ben Hunt goals for the Bayhawks sandwiched a Mark Matthews goal for the Outlaws. Ben Rubeor scored his first of the night with seventeen seconds left in the half, and the Bayhawks led 10-5 going into halftime.
It continued to be all Bayhawks to start the second half. They made it 14-5 early in the third, after goals from Kimmel and Rubeor, and another two pointer by Hunt.
Denver would score a goal, from Sieverts, to start off the fourth, but that was easily erased by a goal from Kimmel.
