The Barrie Blizzard continue to retool their roster after their head office and coaching shuffle last week. Today, the Blizzard acquired Travis Gibbons and AJ Masson from the Niagara Lock Monsters in exchange for a First Round Draft pick in 2014 or 2015 and player Scott Gamble.
After beefing up their defence last week, the Blizzard have added some scoring punch with their recent acquisitions. Owen Sound native Travis Gibbons has been a consistent offensive force chipping in 16 goals and 32 assists in 18 games with the Lock Monsters. Newmarket native AJ Masson was selected in the first round, fourth overall by the Lock Monsters in the 2013 Entry Draft. The transition player was selected 12th overall by the Philadelphia Wings of the NLL this past year but was unable crack the roster. Currently, Masson is on the practice roster with the Toronto Rock.
Barrie General Manager Rob Blasdell said, “We’re looking forward to having these two additions join our team. Both players are from the area, and will be great offensive transition threats for us.”
Going back to Niagara is the recently acquired Scott Gamble. The Toronto Beaches product is a CLax veteran and should give the Lock Monsters some additional leadership and experience going into the tail end of the year. Gamble is in his third CLax year and has accumulated 20 points with the Oshawa Machine, Toronto Shooting Stars and the Durham Turfdogs. The Lock Monsters also receive Barrie’s First Round Draft Pick in either the 2014 or 2015 Entry Draft.
Niagara Head Coach/General Manager Jeff Dowling said, “It’s tough to let go of a great player like Gibbons and we wish him well in Barrie. Scott Gamble brings a lot of experience to our team as we get closer to the end of the season, and I know he will be a leader both on and off the floor for the Lock Monsters.”
