The Bandits had a disappointing season last year, but its a new year and changes can be made. The Bandits sit with the third overall pick in this years draft, the highest they have drafted since 2006 when they selected Brett Bucktooth. The Bandits are in a good spot to add a solid young player, something that an aging team desperately needs.
What do the Bandits need to acquire in the draft? They have holes both offensively and defensively, so I believe they should select the best available player. Most pencil in Mark Matthews as the first overall pick, and rightfully so. Minnesota sits at number two, and Brock Sorensen has been tied to them for a while. However I feel like the Bandits would love to add a guy like Sorensen to the team to add another shut down defensive presence.
However, the Bandits do need another scorer as well. At many points last season secondary scoring was lacking. Tavares and Wiles carried the team at points, and we all know Tavares won’t play forever. The Bandits may be interested in a player that has a last name very familiar to Banditland, Joe Resetarits.
Resetarits is having an excellent season is the MSL, leading the Brampton Excelsoirs in points. This is a team that features players like Joe Walters and Dan Dawson. In 12 games he has scored 18 goals and 10 assists and is already one point away from matching his season total from last year. He has also succeeded on the outdoor level as well in college at Albany and with the Hamilton Nationals.
His brother, Frank, has played for the Bandits as recently as this season. Joe is also from Hamburg, so he would be a hometown guy. Everything about it fits, and makes me believe he is the player the Bandits need/will draft this year. The Bandits need that young scorer to add to the squad as much as anything and Joe would be a great addition.
As for the rest of the draft, if the Bandits could pick up a depth defenseman it would be a good addition. Depending on whether or not they keep both Thompson and Cosmo they may take a goaltender as well. As always its kind of up in the air what teams will do, and this is no exception.
What do you think the Bandits need in this year’s draft? Do you think Resetarits would be a good fit in Buffalo? Comment below!
