After a slow start, the Boston Cannons were able to overcome an early 3-0 deficit to defeat the Ohio Machine. This is the first win for Boston since May 17.
The Cannons, now 3-3 on the season, struggled early to find the back of the net. It wasn’t until mid-way through the first quarter that Boston was able to find their rhythm. After being down 3-0, the Cannons bounced back quickly, scoring four goals to even out the score 4-4 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was all Cannons, who took an early lead before Ohio tied things up again 6-6. Boston went on to score three unanswered goals before the Machine notched another one, making it 9-7. Both teams would each score two more times before going into halftime, Boston leading Ohio 11-9.
Both teams scored early in the second half, making it 12-10, but the Cannons lost some momentum. Ohio would fight back to tie things up 13-13 at the end of the third period.
The fourth quarter showcased several quick goals from both teams. With 4:20 left in the game, the Machine went up 16-15 on a goal from Logan Schuss, but the Cannons tied things up less than a minute later. With just over a minute left in the game, the Cannons Ryan Boyle scored to give Boston a 17-16 lead.
Unfortunately for the Machine, the clock was not in their favor. Time ran out before Ohio was able to notch another goal, giving the Cannons the hard-fought road win.
Goals were scored by several different players on both sides of the green.
The Cannons will next take on the Chesapeake Bayhawks at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on June 14.
