The Canadian Lacrosse League (CLax) is pleased to announce its Week Five Players of the Week for the 2014 Season.
Offensive Player of the Week: Travis Gibbons – Barrie Blizzard – The newly acquired Gibbons didn’t wait long to make an impact with the Blizzard. Gibbons had 4 goals and 7 assists including the game-winner in OT to give the Blizzard their first win of the season.
Honourable mention goes to Durham’s Derek Hopcroft who tallied 4 goals and 3 assists in a close 13-10 loss to the Ohsweken Demons.
Defensive Player of the Week: Jake Henhawk – Ohsweken Demons – For the third straight week Henhawk was huge in shutting down the Demons’ opponents. On Friday night, Henhawk held the Lock Monsters to just 8 goals against and 0 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Honourable mention goes to Barrie’s Colin Boucher. In addition to chipping in a goal inBarrie’s first win, Boucher was solid on defence, causing turnovers and picking up 6 loose balls.
Transition Player of the Week: Chris Attwood – Ohsweken Demons – For a third straight week, Chris Attwood was lethal on transition for the Demons with 6 goals and 5 assists in two games over the weekend.
Honourable mention goes to Durham’s Mark Farthing. Farthing had a goal and an assist against the Demons and was instrumental in leading the Turfdogs into the offensive end.
Rookie of the Week: Dave DiRuscio – Niagara Lock Monsters – DiRuscio showed why he was drafted so high by the Lock Monsters in this year’s Entry Draft. Despite the loss, DiRuscio made 59 saves and had a stellar second half holding the Demons to just 5 goals, which included an empty net talley.
Honourable mention goes to Durham’s Jordan Robertson. The Toronto Beaches product has been a key contributor for the Turfdogs in his first CLax season. Robertson picked up a goal and an assist against the Demons this weekend.
