Five games into the 2013 season, the Iroquois Ironmen are still in the hunt for their first win. The Ironmen will take on rival Ohsweken Demons this tomorrow night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. Despite the fact the Demons sit in first place, this could be a potential first win for the Ironmen.
The last time these two teams met up the Ohsweken took the victory but in a close 18-15 battle. The Ironmen has no problem hanging with the high powered offense of the Demons, but goaltending struggled throughout the game and even the early stages of the season.
The Ironmen may have solved their goaltending controversy with Akwesasne Indians netminder Jake Lazore. Lazore has appeared in two games and averaged a team low 13.16 GAA and a team best .748 save percentage. Lazore also has the ability to push the transition with outstanding outlet passes from the crease. The Ironmen netminder has tallied an assist in both appearances this season.
With that being said, Lazore still has his hands full with the Demons deadly trio. Roger Vyse, Delby Powless and Wayne VanEvery have combined for an unbelievable 134 points.
A silent storyline through out the season has been netminder Jeff Powless yet to record a loss in between the pipes this season. Powless has posted a solid 12.90 GAA and a .771 save percentage which is not a league best, but he is clearly getting the job done with wins.
If Lazore can hold the Demons offensive trio while Chris Attwood and the Ironmen can fill the net, Iroquois will have an optimal chance to capture their first win of the season.
