The Chesapeake Bayhawks traded for New York Lizards defenseman CJ Costabile on Wednesday night. In return the Lizards receive the Bayhawks second round pick in the 2014 collegiate draft.
Costabile was drafted by the Bayhawks in 2012 as the fifth overall pick. He was shipped to the then Long Island Lizards in exchange for defenseman Nicky Polanco, who helped the Bayhawks to a title.
“It was a tough decision to trade CJ,” said Lizards head coach Joe Spallina on the Lizards website. “But we have a lot of depth at defense and to be able to add a high draft pick with such a great year coming was important to us.”
Costabile is also a member of the NLL’s Philadelphia Wings and he missed the first game of the season due to that. In 22 games with the Lizards, Costabile had 48 ground balls and nine points.
He joins a defense unit in Chesapeake that also contains Michael Evans, Nicky Polanco and Brian Spallina.
