1. Brock University (4-0)—Last Week: 1
The Brock Badgers passed their toughest test of the season thus far with flying colours, knocking off the Western Mustangs 14-6 this past Saturday. The Badgers handed the Mustangs their first loss of the season in front of an energetic Brock University homecoming crowd. Sophomore attackman Brandon Slade led the way for Brock, netting a hat-trick and adding two helpers for five points. Fellow sophomores Mark Debrone and Travis Arch followed closely behind with four points each. Seniors Kyle Davis and Greg Davidson each chipped in with a hat-trick in the Badgers fourth win of the year. Sophomore netminder Ryan Jones was stellar in the victory, allowing just six goals on 26 shots. The Badgers can take a stranglehold on the West Division this Friday with a win over the Western Mustangs. Faceoff set for 8 pm at the beautiful TD Stadium in London,ON.
2. McGill University (6-0)—Last Week: 2
The McGill University Redmen are in a very familiar place half way through the season; in first place in the East Division. McGill kicked off a busy week with an 11-5 victory over provincal and divisional rival Bishop’s University. The game was back and forth for the majority of the game, but six unanswered goals, five coming in the fourth quarter, helped the Redmen pull away and clinch the victory. Captain Alex Rohrbach led the way for McGill with five points (3 G, 2 A). The Redmen hit the road and headed to Ontario for a pair of weekend games against Queen’s and Trent. McGill had their hands full in both contests, but mustered out two victories (7-6 vs. Queen’s/15-12 vs. Trent) and kept their perfect record alive. Freshmen midfielder Alex Linton tallied four goals and four assists in the two victories. The Redmen will be busy again with two games slated for week four. McGill travels to Coulter Field this Thursday to take on Bishop’s in a rematch from last weeks Beasts of the East match up. The Redmen will close out the week with a Saturday evening game at home against Carleton University.
3. Western Mustangs (3-1)—Last Week: 3
Despite dropping a 14-6 loss to Brock last weekend, the Mustangs sit in second in the East and stay put in third in the ILWT CUFLA Power Rankings. After averaging 14.3 goals a game in their first three games, the Mustangs were held to just six goals against Brock. The ‘Stangs can bounce back with two games on the docket this weekend. The Mustangs can return the favour to Brock and hand them their first loss of the season this Friday at TD Stadium in London, ON. Western will host the 2-3 McMaster Marauders on Saturday night.
4. Bishop’s University (4-1)—Last Week: 4
The Bishop’s Gaiters took a tough loss against divisional rival McGill last Wednesday. They were in the game for three quarters but failed to find the back of the cage in the fourth to fall to Redmen 11-5. Senior midfielder Mason Austen led the way offensively for Bishop’s, netting a pair of goals. The Purple, Silver and White bounced back with an impressive 19-9 victory over Ottawa. Mason continued his offensive outburst, tickling twine five times while adding an assist for six points on the night. Senior Alex Millin, Sophomore Cam Bateman and junior Ryan Dewar each added four points of their own. The Gaiters have a chance at vengeance with a rematch against McGill this Thursdaynight on their home turf at Coulter Field. Faceoff set for 8 pm.
5. Laurentian University (3-1)—Last Week: 5
The Laurentian Voyageurs stay put at number five in the power rankings after a bye week. The Voyageurs look to get back to business this weekend with two road games. On Saturday night, Laurentian travels to Hogtown to take on the University of Toronto at Varsity Stadium. The next day, the Voyageurs take on the 0-5 Laurier Goldenhawks.
