1. Brock University (5-0): Last Week 1
The Brock Badgers continued their dominance, downing the rival Western Mustangs 12-9. A commanding 8-1 lead at the half helped the Badgers sit comfortably for the remainder of the game. Scoring depth was not an issue for Brock as eight different Badgers found the back of the cage. Sophomore attackman Brandon Slade, senior midfielder Mark Vradenburg, senior attackman Kyle Davis and sophomore midfielder Travis Arch+ each chipped in with a pair of goals. Gage Board, Mark Debrone, Greg Davidson and Nick Rybka rounded out the scoring for the Badgers. Newmarket,ON native Ryan Jones improved his record to 5-0, allowing seven goals on 19 shots. The Badgers will enjoy a much earned week off with a bye week.
2. McGill University (8-0): Last Week 2
The McGill Redmen have a healthy East Division lead, sitting atop of the standings with 16 points, six ahead of the Carleton Ravens. The Redmen knocked off Bishop’s 8-7 in a Thursday night thriller. Senior captain Connor Goodwin burried the game winner with just under five minutes left in the fourth. Sophomore attackman Spencer Bromley led the way offensively for McGill, registering a hat-trick and a lone assist for four points. Two of the Surrey,BC native’s goals came in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory. Junior attackman Rhys Burnell also netted four points with a pair of goals and assists. McGill netminder William Waesche continued his stellar play in between the pipes, making 15 saves for the Redmen. In their second game of the weekend, the Redmen pumped the Carleton Ravens 18-3. Goodwin was stellar once again, netting three goals and four helpers for seven points. McGill has two home games slated for this weekend, taking on Concordia and Ottawa. With two more wins, the Redmen clinch first place in the East.
3. Western University (4-2): Last Week 3
The Western Mustangs were served their second loss of the season, once again at the hands of the Brock Badgers. A sloppy first half cost the Mustangs the game. Junior Sam Neeb netted a pair of goals and an assist for three points. Junior midfielder Jordi Jones-Smith also potted a pair of goals in the loss. The ‘Stangs bounced back, knocking off McMaster in impressive fashion 18-3. Oshawa,ON native Ryan McCory led the way offensively with six points(4G,2A). Jones-Smith continued his solid weekend adding two goals and a helper for three points. The Mustangs have a home and home this weekend with the University of Toronto.
4. Bishop’s University (4-2): Last Week 4
Bishop’s were unable to avenge their loss against rival McGill, losing in heartbreaking fashion 8-7.Senior Gareth Gibson netted a hat-trick while sophomore Ryan Deward potted a pair of goals. The Gaiters look to get back on track this weekend with a pair of road games.Saturday, Bishop’s head to Peterborough,ON to take on Trent and on Sunday, they’ll faceoff with Queen’s in Kingston,ON.
5. Queen’s University (4-3): Last Week: Unranked
The Queen’s Golden Gaels picked up a pair of wins this past weekend. Queen’s knocked off Trent 11-9 and blew out Concordia 22-1. Sitting at 4-3, the Golden Gaels have only lost to McGill twice, once by a goal and once to Bishop’s. Senior attackman Josh Smith tallied five goals, two assists for seven points in the two wins. The Georgina,ON native now sits second among all CUFLA scorers with 33 points in seven games. Senior attackman Brendan Zoehner has mustered up a solid season thus far, netting 28 points (11G,17A).Arguably their biggest game of the season comes this Sunday as they host Bishop’s in a potential battle for second place in the East.
