1. McGill (6-0) Last Week: 2 It has almost been an entire calendar year since the defending Baggataway Cup champions have lost, as they have won the last eight games dating back to September 27 of last year. The Redmen are continuing to dominate the East Division with an impressive 6-0 start to the year. McGill picked up two impressive wins this week over Bishop’s and Trent. The Redmen knocked off the Gaiters 12-10 this past Thursday and blew out the Trent Excalibur 19-7. Junior Connor Goodwin lead the way for the Redmen with seven goals and four assists in the two victories. The New Westminster,BC native currently leads all runners in scoring with 24 points. Teammate Kevin Donovan leads CUFLA in goals with 18 and sits in second in points with 22. Netminder Riley McGillis recorded the win against Bishop’s while he also saw 20 minutes of scoreless of action in the Trent victory.
2. Western (4-1) Last Week: 5
After falling by one goal to the Guelph Gryphons in their season opener, the Western Mustangs have picked up four straight victories. The Mustangs picked up two wins this past weekend over McMaster and Laurier while outscoring their opponents 27-4. In their first game against McMaster, Western picked up a 12-1 victory at Alumni Field in Hamilton. Leading the way offensively for the ‘Stangs was sophomore attackman Ryan McCroy. The Clarington,ON native found the back of the cage four times while adding a helper. Junior netminder Zach Grace made five stops on six shots in 70 minutes of action. The following day the Mustangs hosted the Laurier Goldenhawks at beautiful TD Waterhouse Stadium. In the 15-3 victory, McCrory lead the purple and black once again with five points, bringing his total to 18 points. Contributing in the offense was sophomore midfielder Sam Neeb and Chestnut Hill College grad Shane Morlock.
3.Brock (3-1) Last Week: 3
Brock was not in action this week as they had a bye. The Badgers kept their sticks hot as they competed in their annual alumni game during homecoming week. Brock will travel to Waterloo on Friday night to take on Laurier. The Badgers will get their first chance of redemption as they host West Division rivals Western Mustangs. The Mustangs got the better of the Badgers in the first match as Brock fell 13-5.
4.Guelph (3-1) Last Week: 1
The Guelph Gryphons were not in action this week. The Gryphons have a busy travel schedule and will look to bounce back after a 14-6 loss to Brock last week. On Wednesday night Guelph travels to Hamilton to take on McMaster while on Friday night they play University of Toronto and Laurentian on Sunday afternoon.
5.Queen’s (3-1)
Queen’s picked up arguably their biggest program victory in recent years as they took down Bishop’s University by a score of 8-7 last week. The Golden Gaels extended their winning streak to two as they downed the Raven’s of Carleton 15-9. Sophomore attackmen Brendan Zoehner had a stellar showing with an eight point performance (4G,4A). Netminder Chris Porter picked up the victory for the Golden Gaels. Queen’s will have a chance to prove they are an East Division contender as they travel to Quebec to take on a hungry Bishop’s Gaiter team.
