Demons Stay in First, Defeat Stars

The Toronto Shooting Stars four game winning streak came to an end as the Ohsweken Demons handed Toronto a 14-13 loss. The win bumped Ohsweken into a first place tie with the Niagara Lock Monsters.

Anticipation was running high for this game as it was a make up from week five’s match up which was canceled due to weather.

The Shooting Stars came out of the gate flying coming out to a 3-0 lead from goals from Connor Daly, Derek Hopcroft and a shorthanded marker from Mike Gilian.
Shortly after, the Demons replied with a pair of goals from Roger Vyse and Delby Powless.

The two clubs exchanged goals twice within a minute to end the first quarter 5-4 in favour of the Shooting Stars. After the first frame, Buffalo Bandit practice roster player Hopcroft had already recorded a hat-trick and one assist.

The Demons opened the second quarter with a pair of goals just over three minutes in. Gillian added his second goal of the game knotting the game up at six. Delby Powless added two markers while Holden Vyse found the back of the cage to bring the Demons up by three.

Mack O’Brien closed out the scoring in the first half with just over five minutes left in the frame.

Toronto hit the floor with great pressure but Demons net minder Jeff Powless shut the door on numerous Shooting Star opportunities.

The third quarter saw only four goals, two each for the club, bringing the score to 11-9 in favour of the Demons.

Ohsweken opened the final frame with Van Every’s hat-trick marker and a Vyse goal to give the Demons a four goal lead.

The two teams would exchange goals until the Shooting Stars poured on three goals to bring Toronto within one.

Jeff Powless continued to stay strong as he would not allow a goal for the rest of the gave and helped the Demons pick up the victory.

Loads of offense on the Demons side as eight players registered multipoint games. Cory Bomberry lead the way with seven, which all were assists. Delby Powless added six points (3G,3A) and Roger Vyse found the back of the cage four times while adding a lone assist.

Leading the way for Toronto was Hopcroft who registered an impressive seven points (3G,4A).

Each team will hit the floor this Friday night as the Shooting Stars visit the Brampton Inferno while the Demons play the winless Iroquois Ironmen. Both games will be played at 8 p.m.
