As the improvement for last year was answered, there were a group of emerging All Americans willing to fire back at any questions or concerns of this team. Denver finished last season ranked fifth nationally in scoring offense.
This team was lead by senior attack men Mark Mathews and Alex Demopoulos. Mathews lead the team with 47 goals, finishing third in the nation in goals and tenth in points per game in the country. An injury to Jamie Faus, left the defense in a crippling hold.
With the injury to Faus, Ryan Laplante was up to the task. His first game proved that he can be a great defensive weapon. He had 8 saves in his first start. Laplante went to earn garner ECAC rookie of the week three times last season. Their record was 9-7 and 3-3 in their conference.
As the fairytale has faded with the absence of Mark Mathews and Alex Demopoulos, questions remain, how will they get enough offense to win gritty games. Denver need to recruit more of an offensive strategy. The injury to Faus was huge last season. He needs to be healthy, to play at his best. We shall not forget the prospect of an amazing athlete, Ryan Laplante. With all these stars on one team, this team has only the quality to become an elite force.
