The NCAA Lacrosse season is winding down as teams make their final push for the postseason tournament as well as an NCAA automatic bid. Some players have been producing all season long. However, recently those same players have started to take their games to the next level as they try and lead their teams to a national championship.
With the NCAA season winding down and the MLL starting very soon, here is a list of which MLL Draftees have stepped up their game in the last week.
Josh Dionne, A, Duke—Dionne has found his goal scoring touch again. Therefore, it is not a coincidence that Jordan Wolf and the Blue Devils are also playing better as a result. Dionne has five goals in the last two games, both wins for the Blue Devils over Notre Dame and Virginia. Dionne is a pure goal scorer and will add some offense to the Hounds this year.
Rob Guida, M, Johns Hopkins—Guida hasn’t really scored much at all this year but that is because that is not what has been asked of him in this Hopkins offense. He has been much more of a feeder and good in between the lines player for the Blue Jays as he has eight assists in the last four games including two in the Blue Jays rivalry victory over Maryland.
Zack Losco, M, Penn—Losco was picked in the sixth round by the Hounds back in January and it may have been a great value pick for them. Losco has been the No. 1 midfielder on the team and is currently tied for first on the team with 20 points. Penn has had its struggles on offense but Losco has been the most consistent player as he has scored at least two or three points in most of their games. This past weekend, he had two goals and an assist in the team’s overtime victory over Harvard.
Miles Thompson, A, Albany—Thompson continues to dazzle this season behind his brother Lyle. Thompson helped pace the Albany offense as he had five goals and two assists against Stony Brook this past weekend. Thompson now has 67 points on the season which ranks both second on the team and in the nation behind Lyle. Thompson has been more of the goal scorer this season and the Rattlers look to have quite a steal for getting him in the third round of the draft.
Kieran McArdle, A, St. Johns—Everyone knows about McArdle but no one seems to be able to stop him, ever. Despite a blowout loss to Denver, McArdle still put up five points over the weekend and ranks third in the nation in points with 66 and continues to carry this program on his back. Florida will certainly welcome him into their attack rotation this season after trading away Joe Walter.
John LoCascio, LSM, Villanova—LoCascio has been under the radar because of his team’s lack of success as the Wildcats are 5-6 this season. LoCascio has been a beast though, especially in between the lines. We know he is a caused turnover machine but what you don’t know is that he has 15 points so far this season as he has scored four goals and added 11 assists! Think of him as this draft class’ Mason Poli. Last week alone he had a goal, two assists, three ground balls, went 2-of-5 at faceoffs and caused two turnovers. Talk about being versatile!
Tom Schreiber, M, Princeton—Yawn, Tom Schreiber continues to put up a lot of points and be the most important midfielder in the game today. He had four goals in Princeton’s overtime victory over Lehigh and two assists in a blowout win over Dartmouth. He continues to break Ivy League and team records. I feel like he hasn’t gotten enough credit for how important he is to this team. Without him I don’t think they win more than four games this season.
Henry Lobb, D, Duke—As a defense, Duke didn’t have a great day as they allowed 15 goals to Virginia despite beating the Cavaliers as they grabbed at least a share of the ACC Regular Season Title. Individually though, Lobb had a solid game as he caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls in the victory. He also helped limit Mark Cockerton and Owen Van Arsdale to a combined two points on the day.
Jordan Wolf, A, Duke—Wolf continues to pace the Blue Devils offense and key them on their seven game winning streak. After torching Notre Dame for four goals and three assists, he scored three more goals in the team’s win over Virginia to clinch the ACC Crown. Wolf can do it all and has 59 points on the season. Rochester is getting one helluva attackman to replenish a talent-less roster.
