Fann Cup 2015…Time for Fun, Raising Money, and Memories of a Friend.
Good-Bye PA…….Hello ‘Cuse
This is a weekend I look forward to every year. Play in a charity lacrosse tournament with my friends from all over. As far west as Minnesota, north to Canada, and east from Buffalo Rochester and Philly. Some of us will be playing with our sons and daughters,(I will be), some with have their spouses playing as well. All for a good cause. Raising money for Cancer. But this weekend we all will have the memory of a fallen comrade Frank Menschner who passed on May 15th. This weekend is for you Big Guy!!!
Frank playing another charity game, this one Toys for Tots.
Day1: As we all know, when you leave for a vacation or a trip you NEVER leave when you want to. This was our case as well. Wanted to leave at 10am, and we did but my wife needed something from home while she was at work, thus detour #1. Our second detour took us to Wal-Mart and WAWA as we forgot cups, and to get some lunch for on the way. These aren’t regular cups, these are 32 ounce Solo cups. Now that all the necessities are in the car we are off to Syracuse….at 11am!!!
Great day for a drive along the Pennsylvania Turnpike, truckers felt the same way. Never seen so many 18 wheelers in my life. But thanks to the WAZE app, I was able to accelerate enough to pass them all.
I felt like we were going to Gilligans Island. A three hour drive took four and a half thanks to lovely road construction and getting behind trucks going through it. But no worries, no need to get upset..this is Fann Cup Weekend!!!
As we arrive at the hotel we see a familiar car, this is the car of two of our great friends Melanie and Jason Childers. Always good to see them as we have a great time together. So after check in, calling my wife Jackie to let her know we are safe…for now, unloading the car and getting settled in the room, mixing a few drinks and getting the adult beverages on ice, we relaxed before dinner.
Thirteen of us gathered in the lobby to go to dinner…The hotel was kind enough to say their van driver can drop us off and pick us up. Destination, Tilted Kilt. We warned them and apologized before even sitting down that this would not be a normal party of 13 people, and we did not disappoint. At the table we had 5 from Minnesota, 4 from Pennsylvania, 2 from Rochester, and 1 each from Buffalo and Canada.
Dinner was fantastic, food was exceptional and service was top notch. Our server Lauren had no problem handling this crew of misfits. The only problem was when we called for the shuttle. Estimated arrival was 9:50, we planned to get back and take a swim til 11. That didn’t happen as due to some flight delays and extra pick-up at the airport we were picked up around 10:40.
So you would think a 50 minute delay would get people angry? Not this crowd. The conversations went from Minion movies and quotes, to one of our group members doing Cartman from South Park, and a Canadian acting like Johnny Knoxville in The Ringer. Was he really acting???? LOL
Once we arrived back at the hotel we all called it a night. After being on the go from early morning, packing the car, driving etc… bed looked perfect.
We know that Friday will be filled with excitement from sunrise to sunrise. With this group some may not go to sleep.
So until tomorrow… Good Night.
