The defending MILA champion Colorado Sabertooths announced today that Colorado Mammoth forward John Grant Jr. has been formally introduced as the Sabertooths co-head coach, joining fellow Mammoth player John Gallant behind the bench.
“We are delighted to have John [Grant] join our coaching staff,” said Sabertooths general manager Matt Ogden. “He is not only a great player, but a very good teacher and communicator.”
Grant’s storied playing career in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) and Major League Lacrosse (MLL) includes a pair of Most Valuable Player awards in each league. Grant is the third all-time leading scorer in the history of the NLL, and set a single-season points record (116) in 2012. He has won championships at the professional and international levels.
“We offer a platform for coaches to fine-tune their skills,” continued Ogden. “The Mammoth has been extremely supportive of our team and our league. Thus, we now have two of the best coaches and teachers in all of box lacrosse that will attempt to lead us to another championship.”
Grant, who has coached at various levels, will continue to play for the Mammoth come training camp. Gallant will as well.
The Sabertooths open the 2013 season on August 23 at 7pm against the Chicago Outlaws at the Sears Center in Chicago.
