The Green Gaels Junior B Lacrosse Club is pleased to announce that it has reacquired Will Petschenig from the Nepean Knights in exchange for Junior B rights to Jeremy Osborne.
After playing for the Green Gaels in 2014 on a one year conditional release, Petschenig’s Junior B rights reverted back to the Nepean Knights at the end of the calendar year. This transaction will permanently add the 19 year old transition player to the Gaels roster for the final two years of his junior lacrosse eligibility.
Petschenig, who is currently preparing for the first round of the OHL playoffs with his Oshawa Generals, put up 19 goals and 29 assists in 20 regular season games with the Generals last season, and stepped his game up in the playoffs to lead the team with 9 goals and 9 assists in 7 games. Petschenig will join the Gaels once his playoff run with the Oshawa Generals concludes, hopefully with the Memorial Cup Championship.
“I am very excited to be back playing with the Gaels. I could not have asked for a better way to finish my last two years of Junior Lacrosse than with this team. This is a first class organization and I am proud to be donning the Green and White going forward” said Petschenig upon learning of the trade.
“This season should be a lot of fun. As a group, we are another year older and more experienced. Our goal is to win an OLA Championship, and then bring the Founder’s Cup back to Clarington.” While Petschenig’s versatility may make him a very valuable player on the floor for the Gaels, Assistant Coach Todd Collins says that he is just as valuable off the floor as well.
“Will was one of our top priorities in the off-season and a necessary piece for our success moving forward. He played in every situation for us last season and is able to play all three positions on the floor for us” explained Collins. “His pedigree and experience playing junior hockey will also play a big role in the dressing room helping to develop younger talent on the team.”
Osborne played 11 games with the Whitby Warriors Junior A Team in 2014, primarily as a defensive player. In 2013, he split his season between the Green Gaels and the Markham Ironheads in the Junior B loop.
The trade involves future considerations for both teams in 2015 and 2016.
