Maryland gets some help on defense with Virginia transfer Greg Danseglio. It looks like Greg will be playing for the Terps this spring if all goes right and will take part in helping Maryland win the first ever lacrosse Big Ten Championship. The Long Island native and former St. Anthony star spent the last three seasons playing defense for the Virginia Cavaliers where he was a third team All American in 2014.
He is not the biggest defender on the field but Greg knows what he is doing and has a great stick and a great eye for the ball. After things did not work out this past fall at Virginia, Danseglio left the team and school to most people’s surprise. Many wondered where Danseglio would go and what was next in his future. Now it seems that Maryland is the next step and will be a great fit. He will not have to sit the season out for going to another team in conference being that Maryland switched to the Big Ten.
Danseglio will also be back with some old St. Anthony teammates in Midfielder Joe LoCascio, and faceoff specialist Charlie Raffa. Together in in high school they won Catholic League titles; now they will look for a National Championship in their Senior year of college.
Coming in, Danseglio will be an immediate impact and really give the defense a boost and is also able to score. Last year he had three assists; in 2013 he had five points on the year. Maryland has always been known for its defense and great line of defenders who have gone on to be pro lacrosse players. He only has one year of eligibility left but Greg Danseglio has a shot to make a name for himself in the new Big Ten and be one of the first to do so.
