The Canadian Lacrosse League opened it’s second season this past weekend and it did not lack action as their were 55 goals goals scored in just two games. ILWT’s Pat Gregoire breaks down the weekends match ups and selects his picks for the CLax Week 1 Three Stars.
1st Star: Wayne Van Every- Oshweken Demons
Van Every found the back of the cage an impressive six times while adding two assists in the Demons victory. Van Every opened the game with a natural hat-trick in his first game with Oshweken. Van Every was acquired in an multi-player deal including 2012 league MVP Chris Attwood.
2nd Star: Shane Scott- Durham Turfdogs
Scott played a major role in the Turfdogs win last Sunday as he buried four goals and adding a helper for a team best five points. Three of Scott’s goals came from hard outside blasts which will give trouble to all goalies across the league this season. The former Halton Hill Bulldog and Brampton Excelsior is already only three points away from his season total of nine last year. Scott will be a huge part of the offense with his cannon from the outside and his creativity with former Bulldog Nic Grasby.
3rd Star: Angus Dinely- Toronto Shooting Stars
Despite not getting the start in the Toronto Shooting Stars CLax debut, Dinely made a major impact in between the pipes this past Sunday. Dinely shut the door in 25 of 28 Turfdog shots in the one goal loss. In the third quarter alone, the Canisus College grad made 14 stops including a huge sprawling glove save on a wide open Nic Grasby on the crease. Look to see Dinely get the start on January 27th in Oshawa when these two teams meet again.
