(May 31, 2014)… The Rochester Knighthawks have activated forward Derek Hopcroft for tonight’s Champion’s Cup Finals.
“I have been waiting my entire life for this,” said Hopcroft. “I am going to do everything I can to help this team win.”
Hopcroft, who was originally drafted by Calgary, is familiar with goalie Mike Poulin from their battles in Major Series Lacrosse. Last summer, Hopcroft notched six goals against Poulin and Kitchener-Waterloo in four games.
“I think I have dropped a few balls behind him in the summer,” said Hopcroft. “So, I have come out on top when I have faced him.”
In the MSL, Hopcroft has been a prolific scorer for the Brooklin Redmen. He joined the team in 2008 and has had an impressive career with the team. In six seasons, Hopcroft has not missed a single game. Last season, he was tied for seventh place in scoring in the MSL with 65 points (31+34).
“Derek has proven he is an elite scorer and has had Poulin’s number in the summer league,” said Head Coach Mike Hasen. “We expect the same effort out of him tonight.”
In his NLL career, Hopcroft has scored 21 goals, added 21 assists, and scooped up 35 loose balls in just 19 games. In his Knighthawks debut on April 19th, he scored one goal and added one assist.
Tonight, the Knighthawks will host the Calgary Roughnecks in Game Two of the Champion’s Cup Finals at 8:00 p.m. The game at The Blue Cross Arena will be broadcast live on Sportsradio 950 ESPN and online atwww.sportsradio950espn.com.
