The Rochester Knighthawks will hold a 2014 NLL Championship Parade on Tuesday, June 10th at 11:45 a.m. The procession will start at The Blue Cross Arena and end at City Hall on Church Street. Knighthawks Owner and General Manager Curt Styres will then receive a proclamation from the City of Rochester.
The players and staff will transport the Cup through the streets in a caravan of vehicles. Fans can wear the latest Knighthawks gear to the parade by purchasing the 2014 Championship T-shirt and hat at the Team Store, which will be open Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Fans can also buy championship merchandise Tuesday night at the Knighthawks’ Championship Celebration at the Radisson Hotel Rochester Riverside (120 East Main St.). The event, which is from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., is free and open to the public. Fans can get autographs from the players and have their pictures taken with the Champion’s Cup.
With the 3-2 victory over the Calgary Roughnecks on May 31st, Rochester became the first team to win three straight NLL titles. The Knighthawks also secured a spot in local sports history, becoming the first team in Rochester to earn a three-peat. The Championship was the fifth in the team’s 20 seasons of professional lacrosse.
The Knighthawks erased a 1-0 series deficit by downing the Roughnecks 16-10 in Game Two of the Championship Series. Immediately following the game, the teams played a 10-minute mini-game. After trailing 2-0 with under three minutes to play, the Knighthawks scored three goals in 1:15 to edge Calgary 3-2. Craig Point scored the game-winning goal with under a minute to play, and goalie Matt Vinc made a save with one second to play to preserve the win.
