Johns Hopkins Stuns Syracuse to Advance to Final Four

May 17, 2015

For just the fourth time ever, the Syracuse Orange were taken down in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. The story of the day for Hopkins was graduate student Eric Schneider. Schneider picked up 15 saves and has been on a recent “redemption tour” after getting torched several times early in the season. At certain points it looked like nothing would be getting past him as he made some phenomenal…

May 17, 2015

It’s the most storied rivalry in all of college lacrosse.  It’s the Michigan-Ohio State or the Duke-UNC of its sport.  It’s none other than Johns Hopkins-Syracuse, the two winningest programs in the history of college lacrosse.  Tomorrow at Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, another chapter will be written into the already huge book between the two teams.   We’ll begin with what will be considered the “road” team due to…

Quick Reaction: Notre Dame 14 Albany 10

May 16, 2015

Albany came into the second half after rain delay trailing and needed a momentum shifter. Lyle Thompson took the reigns and played through triples and quadruples of defenders coming at him. A few times, he lost the ball. In the end, Notre Dame stepped up on defense and made fast close range shots goals. They stole the momentum shift away from Albany. The Fighting Irish go on to Philadelphia after…

All Eyes on Denver in Quarter Finals

May 16, 2015

BUILD UP Denver, the Lacrosse Capital of the West, is going nuts this week. As are we media personnel due to the movement in the last week. As Bill Tierney once told me in an interview, “The entire west region kind of looks to DU as their ‘home’ team.” Families are taking off weekend work, players asking for early birthday presents as tickets, and coaches preaching for their teams to…

Analyzing Ohio State’s Stunning Duke Upset

May 13, 2015

Hey ILWT readers! It’s another week, and there hasn’t been a need for an Ohio State lacrosse eulogy, so let’s continue with another week of talking about Buckeye lax. *Disclaimer: I won’t get into the nitty gritty of this week’s NCAA Quarterfinal matchup with Denver. I will do that in my preview coming Saturday. I’m just going to give you my simple thoughts after watching the OSU/Duke game from my…

NCAA Tournament: Profiling the Eliminated

May 12, 2015

This past weekend, the NCAA men’s lacrosse tournament field was trimmed from 16 down to eight. While the lacrosse community points to the teams still competing for a national championship, it’s also important to recognize the teams that were eliminated — the ones that didn’t even earn a shot to play for a final four berth and didn’t come close to the ultimate goal of a title. Even though their…
