Defending champion Yale Bulldogs (15-3) have a shot at defending their title after upsetting the Penn State Nittany Lions (16-2) 21-17 in the second game of the NCAA semi-finals on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Penn State’s only two losses this season were at Yale’s hands. Back on February 23rd Yale defeated Penn State 14-13 in New Haven. Yale’s 10 first-quarter goals tied a 1976 record set by Maryland…

May Madness: Conference Semifinals Create Chaos

May 6, 2016

One word to summarize what happened Thursday: wow. All of the conferences except the ACC and Patriot League (who already finished their tournaments last week) and the Ivy League (who play Friday and Sunday) had their semifinals yesterday, and it brought some big results that will affect plenty of bubble teams. America East: Vermont 10, #15 Stony Brook 9; Hartford 11, #4 Albany 10 (OT) You read those scores right. Vermont…

NCAA Bracketology V2: You Should Probably Win As Much As Possible

April 19, 2016

Here’s a scary stat: 84% of the regular season has been complete. 16% of the regular season remains. Some teams still have a game, or two, or maybe three left. But many teams also have their respective conference tournaments to participate in as well. They’ll get started next week with the Patriot and ACC tourneys happening, with the other conference tournaments occurring in two weeks. This year’s field for at-large…

College Lacrosse Weekend Preview: All Chaos Conference?

April 15, 2016

With so much drama in the ACC, it’s kinda hard getting into the NCAA Tournament scene. But they, somehow, some way, keep coming up with interesting storylines every single day. I’m no Snoop Dogg, but if you use your imagination and tinker the first four lines of Gin And Juice with ACC references, it’s actually a pretty good summary of the conference’s season. Except Notre Dame, who’s sitting comfortably as…

NCAA Bracketology V1: There’s Still Time

April 12, 2016

Is it too early to start predicting brackets? Some may say yes, others the opposite. Joe Lunardi already has a way too early 2017 NCAA Basketball Tournament Bracketology, and we just got done the hoops tournament last week! Teams don’t know if they’ll lose someone to either the NBA Draft or to transfers or even who they might gain via transfers and commitments. But in lacrosse, we have less than…

College Lacrosse Weekend Preview: T-Minus 29 Days Until Selection Sunday

April 8, 2016

We’re starting the final stretch of the season with under a month until Selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament. Unlike last year, it’s a very wide open field, with only two ACC teams in the top 15 in RPI. Some early Bracketology projections have Notre Dame and Syracuse in, with some even including Virginia. Except for Notre Dame, the ACC is on the bubble for some spots, with UNC and…

College Lacrosse Weekend Preview: Meet In The Conference Room

March 31, 2016

Alright, so some conferences have already started their conference schedule. But this weekend, nearly every team that’s playing will have a conference game, including the CAA, which opens up conference play on Saturday. For some teams, it’s a chance to get that top seed in their respective conference tournaments en route to a possible automatic bid. For other teams, the road to the postseason begins now. One loss might be the…

College Lacrosse Weekend Preview: Show Me What You Got

March 11, 2016

It’s time for some teams to prove one of two things. Either they’re contenders when May comes around, or they still need some work to do. It’s been about a month since the season got underway, and we’ve seen Towson, Hofstra, and even Rutgers rise into the Top 20, while Duke, Virginia, and Georgetown have been disappointments thus far. But is this the biggest weekend of the season? Sure there’s been…
