On Wednesday night the Langley Thunder hosted the Coquitlam Adanacs in WLA action. Coquitlam wasted no time getting on the board as Matthew Dinsdale would score just 21 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Langley though would take control of the game as Alex Turner scored a pair of goals to give Langley a 2-1 lead. Langley would extend their lead on a goal from Brandon Goodwin in order to take a 3-1 lead at the end of one period of play.
In the second period Athan Ianucci would continue to build on Langley’s lead as he would notch Langley’s second power play goal of the game to give Langley the 4-1 lead. Coquitlam though would not roll over and die as Dane Dobbie put the team on his back and sparked a three goal Coquitlam run in order to tie this game 4-4. The game would not be tied for long though as Iannucci and Shayne Jackson would find the back of the net to restore Langley’s lead. At the end of the second period Langley led 6-4.
In the third period the Adanacs would play excellent defense and hold Langley off the score board. Coquitlam though would tie the game after Jesse Guerin and Brett Hickey scored to tie the game 6-6 and force overtime. In overtime Coquitlam would draw first blood as Matthew Dinsdale completed his hat trick as he gave the Adanacs a 7-6 lead. Brett Hickey would then add to the Coquitlam lead as he found the back of the net and made the score 8-6. Athan Iannucci though would get Langley back in this game with a goal to pull Langley to within one. With just under a minute left in overtime Brandon Goodwin would score to tie the game 8-8. This game would end in a draw just the second draw of the WLA season.
This game was a back and forth affair as both teams showed they were able to fight back but neither could sustain the advantage and retain a lead. This was a gutsy performance by the Adanacs to take Langley to the limit but it has to be disappointing for the Thunder as they lost control of this game in the second period and were never able to recover. It will be interesting to see going forward how both teams respond after this tie.
