The Langley Thunder have announced their roster for the 2014 WLA season which begins this Saturday, May 17, against the Coquitlam Adanacs.
The roster includes some new faces along with some key returning players such as Captain, Matt Leveque, who is entering his eighth season as team captain.
Leading the charge on offense will be Athan Iannucci, as he returns to help lead a very different looking Langley lineup this season. Iannucci was one of the team’s top goal scorers last season, finishing with 27 goals and 29 assists, in 18 regular season games. He also added another eight goals and seven assists in eight playoff games.
The Thunder are also hoping Joel McCready can make a big impact in 2014, after his season was cut short by a season ending injury last year. McCready was off to a hot start before getting injured, adding seven goals and six assists in just five games.
On defense, the Thunder will look to last year’s Defender of the Year, Brett Mydske. Mydske is entering his fifth season with the Thunder and is seeking his third straight Defender of the Year award.
Also on the back end is the return of the Thunder’s starting goaltender Brodie MacDonald. MacDonald is coming off a career year with a 7.51 goals against average and a .821 save percentage.
With the National Lacrosse League season coming to a close in the coming weeks the Thunder roster is likely to change. For now, the new additions to the Thunder lineup will have an opportunity to showcase their skills in hopes of securing a spot on the team full time.
The Thunder will host the Maple Ridge Burrards in their 2014 home opener at the Langley Events Centre, on May 28. Game time is 7:45PM PST.
