The Florida Launch (4-4) host the Chesapeake Bayhawks Saturday night in a must win game for Stan Ross’ club. Florida has struggled lately and will need a big victory at home to help get them some sort of momentum going into the final stretch of the season that has them on the road for four of their last six games. Chesapeake hasn’t met their expectations for the season, sitting at 2-6, it looks like they will be playing spoiler for the remainder of the season.
Chesapeake has struggled to produce points, only one Bayhawk player has over 10 goals on the season and that’s of course, Brendan Mundorf. With a roster featuring, Ben Hunt, Matt Mackrides, Ben Rubeor, Peet Poillon and Steven Brooks, there shouldn’t be a problem scoring, but they’ve dropped all four matches they scored fewer than 10 goals, and have lost both contests that went into overtime. On top of it all, they scored six goals last week against Denver. You can’t win a game in this league scoring six goals; it’s not happening.
Florida on the other hand are finding different ways to lose, last week they showed no heart in the second half of their matchup with Rochester and the Rattlers ran wild on them, pouring on goals out of the half time break and never looked back, the Launch need to learn fast how to put four quarters together. They must keep their foot on the gas from start to finish, they can’t get content.
If the Launch are a serious contender they must shape up and play well the last six weeks of the season, there is no backing into the playoffs in Major League Lacrosse.
The Bayhawks recently traded midfielder Micheal Kimmel to the lizards in exchange for David Earl. Earl provides consistency that the Bayhawks need at the midfield right now. He is a solid two-way midfielder.
