The Florida Launch (2-1) are looking to hit stride this weekend, as they travel to Annapolis for take on the Chesapeake Bayhawks (1-2). The Bayhawks host the Launch for their first-ever road game, which comes at a time where Chesapeake needs a strong showing as they look to get back on track after a poor showing against Charlotte last weekend.
The Launch on the other hand, are looking like a real contender this year. Look for Florida to come out with a lot of energy as they are in unchartered territories looking to knock off the already-established Chesapeake Bayhawks. Garrett Thul and Casey Powell are a dual threat on offense, having collected Warrior Offensive Player of the Week honors for back-to-back weeks, the Launch proved they can share the work load and be successful.
Chesapeake’s lone win came on Week 2 at home against the New York Lizards in overtime. In their two losses the Bayhawks have looked less than stellar. Scoring only seven goals last weekend in the loss, and nine goals in Week 1’s loss to Boston, is not Dave Cottle’s idea of getting back to play for the Steinfeld Cup they hoisted last September.
Bayhawks newcomer Brendan Mundorf leads his team in points with six goals and four assists. The ‘Hawks are going to need a lot of contributions if they want to get back into playoff contention. The Bayhawks find themselves in the bottom of the barrel in goal differential (minus-10) this season.
Defenseman Tucker Durkin and Goalie Brett Queener are having themselves a good first couple weeks in their new home with the Launch. Keeping opponents under 10 goals can be a daunting task with some of the playmakers in this League but in Florida’s two wins they have done just that.
Take a break from the NCAA action and head down to beautiful downtown Annapolis on the base of Naval Academy, Saturday, May 17 at 7:00 pm ET to watch the Chesapeake Bayhawks host the Florida Launch. The game can also be streamed live from YouTube.
