After a 1-2 start and giving up the second most goals against in the Western Conference, the Colorado Mammoth have decided to release veteran goaltender Chris Levis. This season, Levis has a goals against average of 18.92 in three games played.
Over Levis’ career, which began in 1998, Levis has a respectable GAA of 11.64. However, in the past three years there is no doubt he has struggled. Matt Roik, the now presumed starter in Colorado, has also seen his share of struggles all the way back to last season.
Roik started 2012 as the goalie in Toronto but was released after putting up a GAA of 12.52. This season in Colorado, he has put up worse numbers with a GAA of 13.96. He will not get the bulk of the time in net for Colorado, along with youngster Dan Lewis, just re-signed by the Mammoth.
Lewis last season played on the practice squad and also saw time on the active roster. The 23 year old saw just over nine minutes of action last season in the NLL but is the starter in the BCJLL with the Coquitlam Junior Adanacs.
The Mammoth will face the Minnesota Swarm this week with Roik between the pipes, and they hope they kept the better goalie when they chose him over Levis.
