Live Blog: Maryland Terps vs Notre Dame Irish

Maryland and Notre Dame clash for the third time and the ACC rivals look to see who will punch their ticket to Moday’s championship.

Maryland is playing in their black uniforms, Notre Dame in all whites.

1-0 Notre Dame with Matt Kavangh gets its all started with his goal. Notre Dame up one.

2-0 Notre Dame gets their second.  This time with Kavanagh assisting to John Scioscia.  Kavanagh is already pacing the offense early.

2-1 when Maryland gets their first. The Terps will always let Locascio shot and he comes through.  Chanenchuk hit the pipe prior and Locascio finished his chance.  Terps cut the lead in half….

TV Timeout.

2-2 as Connor Cannizzaro beats the Notre Dame goalie.

3-2 Kavanagh with another.

4-2 Nick Ossello takes the face off to the house with under ten seconds left in the quarter.

End of 1st. 4-2 in favor of Notre Dame

5-2 Notre Dame when Connor Doyle gets one by Niko Amato. The Terps with a very poor substitution which left Doyle unattended .

Connor Kelly is making big saves. First one Jay Carlson in tight and the JoeLoCascio.  Carlson meets Kelly one more time.  Possessions heavily favoring Notre Dame and the Terps looks disturbed out there chasing the Irish around.

Maryland timeout to settle the troops. Long Notre Dame possessions are not allowing the defense to recoup before they are on their heals again.  Good shots will beat the Notre Dame goalie and the Terps haven’t found too many lately.

Out of timeout, Maryland backs into a zone.

6-2 Kavanagh with another.  Lead pushed to four.

6-3 Joe Locascio gets another.  Beats Kelly low and away to cut the deficit to three.

6-4 Jay Carlson with a garbage goal.  Notre Dame gets one called back and Maryland gets one called for.

Looks like Charlie Raffa is going to be done for awhile from the looks. Get healthy and we hope for the best.

Timeout Notre Dame

6-4 Notre Dame. Teams hit the locker room to get ready for the sprint to the finish line.  If the Irish can control second half face offs, they might be able to put enough pressure on Maryland to make Monday’s line up.  With Maryland, they need longer possessions and multiple shot attempts.  They are isolating a lot.  Look for a second half run like they had against Cornell before.

Halftime Stats:

Face offs: 10/12 Maryland

Extra Man: 0/0 ND 0/2 Maryland

Shots: 18 ND   19 MD

Shots on Goal: 12 ND    11 MD

Turnovers: 7 ND     12 MD

Five assisted goals of Notre Dame’s 6 total

No assisted goals for Maryland

Now lets begin the second half………

Charlie Raffa is a warrior. He is out there on the opening face off of the second half.  Terps turn it over to Notre Dame to begin the quarter.

Nick Ossello beats Amato to increase the lead to three. 7-4 Notre Dame.  Garino takes following face off instead of Raffa.

8-4 Notre Dame. Amato tries to make a play on the ball but it gets by him and to Notre Dame’s Connor Doyle.  Doyle finds Kavanagh and he finishes for Notre Dame’s eighth goal of the game.

8-5 Henry West scores to break Notre Dame’s run.  It is his sixteenth of the season.  Was it ironic that he scored right after another ex Cornell player was interview on the big screen?  Assist to Mike Chanenchuk.

9-5 Kavangh beats Murray top side and uses his right hand to sneak one by Amato.  The Irish answer Maryland’s goal quickly.

10-5 Pat Cotter scored and the assist to Kavanagh.  Murray is chasing Kavanagh all over the field.  Some of the Maryland faithful have left for the exits already.

Mike Chanenchuk beats Kelly low to get the Terp goal total to six.  6:02 remaining in the game.

At the end of the 3rd Quarter, Maryland is down to Notre Dame 10-5

Jon Scioscia ices it with 1:17 left in the game.  Notre Dame will face Duke on Monday in a rematch of the 2010 National Championship game.
