Three-time National Lacrosse League Champion Mike Accursi has re-signed a one-year deal with the Rochester Knighthawks. Accursi remains with the Knighthawks after helping Rochester win the 2012 Champion’s Cup.
“It’s great being the defending champs,†said Accursi. “Our roster is pretty much intact and you’re adding better and bigger pieces. It looks like it’s going to be another exciting season.â€
The 2012 season was Accursi’s 15th in the NLL, which he capped off with his second title with the Knighthawks. His 66 points (22+44) was his third highest regular season total of his career, and his most since the 2007 championship season. In the playoffs, he provided five goals and four assists. His biggest goal was in the third quarter of the NLL Championship Game, which proved to be the game-winning goal. Accursi has established himself as one of the most clutch playoff performers in NLL history, collecting 93 points in 22 games.
In his career, Accursi has played in 220 regular season games, which is the fifth most all-time in league history. His 368 goals are eighth on the all-time list, and last season he eclipsed the 400-assist and 1,000-point plateau.
After spending his summer coaching youth lacrosse in St. Catharines, Ontario and Six Nations, the 37-year-old forward is “itching to get back on the floor†with the Knighthawks.
“I am eager to get back out there and get the Knighthawks jersey on again, and make a run for another Championship,†said Accursi. “That was the reason I came to Rochester. I liked the direction they were going. All I want to play for now is Champion’s Cups.â€
