The Minnesota Swarm are coming off back to back Division Finals. This year they finished the season as the last team in on the playoffs. The Swarm were lead by a big group of young talent which included Kiel Matisz and Shayne Jackson, both were selected to the NLL’s All- Rookie team.
The Swarm are heading into the NLL 2013 Entry Draft with the most first round picks, once again. They really are going to need to beef up their defense for next year. After this last season that seems to be the one thing they are missing. Now they also had major problems in net with Tyler Carlson and Evan Kirk trading of games for most of the season. This shouldn’t be too big of a problem after Tyler Carlson lead the way in the playoffs. Carlson was stellar during those games having a GAA of 11.5 and a Saves Percentage of 78.5 in the two games. Also in those two games Ryan Benesch had 16pts and Callum Crawford had 15pts to lead the Swarm.
With their four first round picks the Swarm will definitely look to be huge players in the draft. If the Swarm stick to what they need they will be looking at drafting Jason Noble, out of Cornell, with either the second or fifth picks. Another interesting potential draft pick could be Dillon Ward, which would mean the trade of either Carlson or Kirk. If the Swarm did draft Ward and traded Carlson or Kirk the most likely team would be the Philadelphia Wings, probably for a draft pick in the second round where the Swarm have no picks. If they do get a second round pick or even another third round pick it may not be a bad trade.
The Swarm have a huge upside this off- season and heading towards next season. With small changes and upgrades St. Paul may need to get a parade route planned.
